I have not ever coded this before, but I think that if you have:

run/beamOn very_large_number

and you put in your StackingAction:

if (mycounter == desired_events) {
   G4RunManager::GetRunManager()->AbortRun(true);
}

the run will be aborted after the current event is finished (softAbort==true).

Of course, you'll have to initialize and increment mycounter in StackingAction class. You'll also have to devise a way to set desired_events via a command.

I suggest you verify that the soft-abort is actually done; e.g. that last event gets fully simulated.
