Ok to clear this thread up. It appears that my code works fine if I simplify to a constant magnetic and/or electromagnetic field and then the electrons behave as expected.

The problem appears to come from the reading in from a file of the strength of the field. What I have used is, as I said earlier, code from one of the examples to read in all my values and then at every step work out what is the closest read in value, on a 1cm grid, and use that as the value for the field strength.

The field simulations were generated in a program called Opera and rather than going to zero (electric component only) they go to very low values where my electric field is virtually non existant, the changes across a centimetre of the field are relatively smooth too. So I don't know if the various steps taken in the simulation to generate the equation of motion etc. to generate the path of the electrons in the field are unhappy with the kind of values I'm giving it or if it is something else?

Apologies for the rambling nature of this post but I'm still not sure I fully understand either geant4 or this specific problem so I'm trying to get as much information that can be useful across.
