Question ROOT histogramming

Forum: Analysis
Date: 31 Jan, 2002
From: Rui Bugalho de Moura <>

Hi everyone,

In my Geant4 simulation I'm counting photons arriving at an Avalanche PhotoDiode.

I want to histogram the counts on the APD as a function of the point (x,y,z) where the photons were created.

Each run I'm processing 5 events, generating photons in points at the same z (varying x and y for each event). I plan to do many runs and at the end histogram counts as a function of the z coordinate.

So, my questions are:

1.Should I book my histograms from my Geant4 simulation or can I create and fill my histograms using the nice ROOT command line interface?(I prefer this last option, for versatility)

2.If I am to manage my histograms interactively using ROOT's interface, how and where in my Geant4 simulation code should I store my data points? Should I store them in a file? With which format?

I'm grateful for your attention and I hope you can help.

Best regards,

Rui Moura
