Question thread sybchronization

Forum: Multithreading
Date: 07 Nov, 2012
From: Andrea Di Simone <Andrea Di Simone>

Hi all,

I have a question concerning synchronization between threads. Consider a snippet like the following (adapted from the migration document):

if (threadRank == 0){

theDetector=new MyDetectorConstruction();

} else {

theDetector->SlaveDetectorConstruction();

}

This clearly implies some synchronization between threads. You must be somehow ensuring that the master thread will run this before the rest of the threads. Since in a complex application this kind of "under the hood" synchronization can be very convenient to exploit, I would like to know some details about what is being synchronized exactly, and up to which point.

Thanks for your help,

Andrea.
