Question Is anybody out there ACTUALLY using DICOM images in a Geant4 simulation?

Hello everybody I would need to use DICOM CT (and PET as source) images in a Geant4 simulation. I have been struggling for days with the famous DICOM example provided. However, as people has noticed several times also in this forum, this example comes not exactly “working out of the box”. In particular if you want to use the “new DCMTK approach” that seems to be so much suggested in the README, you miss the proper ColourMap file, and the geometry is thus not recognisable. Moreover, even if you manage somehow to fix it, the example (maybe) works for the simple 3 slices .dcm files provided, but as soon as you try with a real case dicom image it gets impossibly slow, also on a top level machine. (I found a post suggesting gMocrenFile visualisation, but I didn’t manage to use it yet and however it should be an “offline” visualisation, for which we have plenty of software)

So, my question is simple: is anybody out there ACTUALLY using Geant4 with actual DICOM imaging files? Maybe they could share some experience regarding this much interesting possibility..

Thanks in advance Francesco Collamati INFN Rome
