2) click on Member Info in the top menu bar
3) enter your user name and password
4) click on update

Re: News New Geant4 HyperNews up and running (Dennis H. Wright)
Dear Geant4 HyperNews Users,

There is no need to update your member profile by hand after the HyperNews upgrade anymore. I've run a script to do that for everyone automatically.

    regards,

Warning Re: New Geant4 HyperNews up and running => Lost messages !!  by Gabriele Cosmo <Gabriele Cosmo>,   08 Jun, 2008
Re: None Re: New Geant4 HyperNews up and running (Terry Hung)
It looks like that during the transition several postings have been lost !
I can at least report the case for the "Geometry" Forum, where the last message
appearing now is dated 'August 2007' !!
At least one message is also lost in the "Installation & Configuration" Forum,
and it is likely that other Fora are affected as well, I couldn't check them all !
Can you please review the status of the old Hypernews and restore those postings
which are missing ? Thanks.

Gabriele

Re: Warning Re: New Geant4 HyperNews up and running => Lost messages !! (Gabriele Cosmo)
Hi Gabriele,

Thanks for the problem report! I have just fixed one compatibility
problem between the old and new HyperNews, so most of the messages should be
visible now.

If you still see the old message outlines (lastest is 2007 for geometry),
try cleaning up the personal data from the browser's cache as the following:

o Tools -> Clear Private Data -> Clear Private Data Now (from browser
     Firefox)
o Tools -> Delete Private Data (from browser Opera)
then reflesh the current page to get the latest content of the web page.

Since I do not have the privilege for the old HN server, I have asked
Doug Smith to set up a URL for the old HN so that we can compare the old
and new HN to find any missing messages. It will take a little while.

   Thanks!

None Change to new hypernews system  by Dennis H. Wright <Dennis H. Wright>,   30 May, 2008
Next week the Geant4 HyperNews will be changed to a new, updated version.

In addition, the port will be switched from 5090 to 80, so more people
will have access.

There may be a brief interruption of service as the switchover occurs.

All postings on the old hypernews will be transferred to the new one.
None Repost of message 1: Welcome to HyperNews (originally posted by Douglas Smith)  by Dennis H. Wright <Dennis H. Wright>,   26 Feb, 2007
Welcome to the HyperNews system for Geant4! This system is based at
SLAC, and is managed by myself, Douglas Smith.

Provide me comments and feedback on the system in this forum. I will
watch this forum for ideas, and problems. And hopefully deal with them
in a timely manner.

I would like to appologise (like our president to the chinese) about
the time it took to get this server to this state. Things were also
put off for the setup of a new machine for the server, to replace the
aging old dell linux desktop machine which was to be the server. This
forum is now working off a 2-cpu rackmounted speedy VAlinux machine
with lots of memory and good networking access. Hopefully this will be
a good server for along time to come.

HyperNews has turned out to be a beast of a system to configure and not
all things are there yet. I will get to small items, link broken
links, over the next few weeks. Hopefully all issues will disapear in
due course.

I am the manager for the system, but I have no control over the forums
and information within the system. Dennis Wright will be the HyperNews
manager for now. Please send him any comments you have about managing
your membership info, creation of new forums and changing information
within these forums. His e-mail is 'dwright@slac.stanford.edu'.

I hope you enjoy this service-

None Server Error  by Dennis H. Wright <Dennis H. Wright>,   16 May, 2005
The error posted in message #8:

-----------------
 Server error!

The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete
 your request.

 Error message:
Premature end of script headers: add-response.pl

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.
 Error 500

------------------

continues to be looked at. It is difficult to fix because it occurs
randomly and because it is both an e-mail and afs issue.

Please note, however, that your first message is getting through and it
is not necessary to post it a second time.

Re: None Server Error (Dennis H. Wright)

If this would happen only on posting, and the message gets through anyway, it may not be too bad. It also happens for reading news, though.

Many greetings,

Hans-Peter.

This is a random rare temp problem which happens at some
times, there are people trying to track this down.

This is by no means a rare problem. It happens systematically 3 out of 4 times. Since recently, this got worse, since it now happens both on reading and writing messages. In other words, we are cut out from reading hypernews.

Many greetings,

Hans-Peter.

None New testing search service for the HyperNews  by Douglas Smith <Douglas Smith>,   02 Apr, 2003

There is a new search engine in use as a service for this HyperNews. This is just in testing at this moment, but people should give it a try and see how it works for them, if it can get you to the correct document quickly, and returns a reasonable list of hits.

The search can be performed from the main forum index page for this HyperNews, just type in a word for search for and hit Search!.

Please give this service a try, and e-mail me: douglas@slac.stanford.edu with comments about how this service works for you, or doesn't work for you.

Re: Warning Loss of HyperNews service- (Douglas Smith)

It seems the system never recovered...

None Re: Loss of HyperNews service-  by Peter Henry <phenry@slac.standford.edu>,   16 Feb, 2007
Re: None Re: Loss of HyperNews service- (Philipps Montoga)
The system has not been updated since 2002.
The abusing posts should be removed and the code should be updated.
Who could do that? I suggest we talk about it at the next meeting.
None Recent changes to the HyperNews system-  by Douglas Smith <Douglas Smith>,   01 Aug, 2002

Hello All-

The HyperNews server has recently been swapped for a new upgraded server. We now are using a Red Hat 7.2 machine with an Apache 2.0 server.

This server change happened on Monday afternoon, and was supposed to happen without anyone actually noticing. In the end the network change caused 10-15mins of problems, and about a dozen people noticed. But the system has now proved stable for days, and with everything working.

Sorry about the small outages in service with this change, hopefully we can keep things smoother in the future.

And enjoy the new upgraded service-

Douglas
